you will inherit a large sum of money very soon explores the collective experience of the fortune cookie - especially the habit of keeping the small fortunes hidden inside. This work observes how we look for meaning in random words, preserve tiny symbols, and find comfort or motivation in them.
The title, taken from an actual fortune inside a cookie, reflects the absurd uncertainty of these messages. The installation includes a book with collected photos of kept cookie fortunes, an installation with fortune cookies to take away, and temporary tattoos printed with real fortunes. These tattoos playfully question of „if I put these on my skin, manifest them, instead of keeping it in my purse - maybe it makes them come true even faster?“
What interested me most was not the content of the fortunes, but our emotional relationship to them. They‘re vague yet meaningful, random but uplifting. This quiet, almost unconscious ritual of saving them feels like a small, personal gesture of hope.
And I find that deeply moving.
