SONDER (2023)
The video work SONDER (2023) explores the melancholic feeling of being connected to yet isolated from the people around us — a sensation that often accompanies us in everyday life. Its title refers to the neologism “sonder,” first mentioned in 2012 by John Koenig in The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows.

For this work, I created a soundscape that gives voice to the lights, footsteps, and movements beyond the window. While the eye jumps from event to event, the sound creates a simultaneity of image and perception.

This sense of melancholy has been a recurring theme in my work since the beginning of my studies. It often arises during train rides, when I find myself suspended between two lives I cannot imagine giving up. Especially at night, leaning my head against the window, I begin to sense the presence of others more intensely — realizing that each of them carries a story in which I play only a fleeting role.
